The UIL Best of Texas virtual meet, consisting of rounds 2 and 3, was held on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Mathematics and Calculator Applications students received round 2 awards under the direction of UIL Coach Meredith Cart.
For 10th grade Calculator, Rebecca Gibson placed 6th while Drew Frederick and Marili Velasquez placed 8th. For 11th grade Calculator, Alexis Nelson placed 2nd, Addie Parker placed 6th, and Angel Palomares placed 11th. For 12th grade Calculator, Hayden LeVeck placed 11th.
Nelson ended up earning a 6th place award for the entire 3A category while Parker earned a 16th place award.
For 10th grade Mathematics, Sammy and Ted Stramecki placed 2nd. In addition Gibson placed 4th, Frederick placed 6th, and Jackson Monroe placed 7th. For 12th grade Mathematics, LeVeck placed 6th.
The Strameckis ended up earning 9th place awards for the entire 3A category while Gibson placed 12th, Frederick placed 15th, LeVeck placed 16th, and Monroe placed 18th.
“I was surprised to get 6th place out of all the 3A schools ,” Nelson said. “I’m looking forward to District and how far I can get at Regionals this year.”
The EC-hosted UIL Academic District meet will be held on Thursday, March 26 under the direction of UIL Coordinator Corey Smith.
