Academic UIL teams competed at the Port Neches’ Practice Meet on Saturday, Feb. 14 under the direction of UIL Coordinator and Debate Coach Corey Smith.
Sophomore Ace Henley went 3-1 and placed 3rd in LD Debate while sophomore Abbie Bourque went 2-2 and earned 30 speaker points.
Students who placed in Coach Jessica Otte’s Journalism events include junior Aiden Franzen who placed 1st in Copy and 6th in News Writing, junior Gaby Chavez who placed 3rd in News Writing and 1st in Feature, as well as junior Isabelle Espinal who placed 3rd in Editorial Writing.
“I’m very happy that my hard work and practice paid off,” Franzen said. “I am super thankful to my Coach, Mrs. Otte, for giving me a chance to earn this opportunity.”
UIL Academic students will compete in their next invitational meet at Nederland High School on Saturday, Feb. 21.
