Academic UIL teams competed at Bridge City’s meet on Saturday, Nov. 15 under the direction of coaches Corey Smith and Kaci Bull.
In CX Debate, juniors Christian Carter and Kullen Spencer earned 2nd place while junior Mikeala Quave placed 5th in Informative Speaking.
“I was proud of myself for placing in the first academic meet of the year,” Quave said. “There were a lot of 4A and 5A schools there, so it was a good competition.”
In Literary Criticism, senior Cecelia Gibson placed 2nd place and junior Gaby Chavez placed 4th. Lit Crit competitors included senior Danica Burrell, junior Lennon Trove, junior Isabelle Espinal, and freshman Gabriel Cardenas where they won 1st Place Team Overall.
“I felt extremely proud of my kids, especially when a coach from another school mentioned that they usually get 1st place team,” Bull said. “I hope that my team keeps up the hard work and we make it to Regionals this year.”
UIL teams will travel to Hamshire-Fannett High School to compete in their next practice meet on Saturday, Jan. 17.
