Academic UIL teams competed at Hamshire-Fannett’s Longhorn Practice Meet on Saturday, Jan. 20 under the direction of coaches Carson Reddell, Macey Richard, Ann Frugia, Meredith Cart, Taylor Reddell, and Jessica Otte.
Competing in Prose, senior Cecelia Gibson placed 3rd and freshman Kenley Jordan placed 5th.
For Journalism, in Copy Editing, juniors Aiden Franzen and Cameron Dillard placed 3rd and 4th. News Writing junior Gaby Chavez placed 1st while Franzen placed 2nd. In addition, Gibson placed 4th. Junior Alexis Nelson placed 3rd in Feature Writing while Chavez placed 5th . Senior Alexa Francisco placed 1st in Headline Writing,
“I felt really shocked because this was my first time doing news writing,” Chavez said. “I hope I continue to do well.”
In Joshua, debate members also competed under the direction of coach Corey Smith. Sophomore Ace Henley placed 3rd out of 54 students for LD
UIL teams will travel to PNG to compete in their next practice meet on Saturday, Feb. 14.
