The swim team competed in Texas City’s ‘Turkey Bowl 2025’ on Friday, Nov 21 under the direction of sponsor Leslie Todd.
The boys Medley Relay included sophomore backstroke swimmer Drew Frederick, junior breaststroke swimmer Chip Franklin, senior butterfly swimmer Hayden LeVeck, and senior freestyle swimmer Koby Jones where they placed 4th. The boys 200 Freestyle Relay included Franklin, LeVeck, Frederick, and Jones where they placed 3rd. The boys’ team finished 6th, overall, out of 23 teams.
“We are so blessed to be at a school where everyone works together so these kids can do it all,” Todd said. “It’s not always easy, but we make it work. So proud of our swimmers and grateful for the support that makes all of this possible.”
For boys individual events, Franklin placed 6th in the 200 IM (Individual Medley) , LeVeck placed 5th in the 200 Freestyle, and Jones placed 9th in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. In addition, freshman Isaac Prescod placed 3rd in the 200 Free while freshman Ben Carter shaved 16 seconds off his personal best for the 100 Freestyle.
For girls individual events, freshman Kalyssa Fontenot placed 1st in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 Freestyle while sophomore Jayla Coffey placed 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and 8th in the 100 Backstroke. In addition, junior Allison Hernandez shaved 18 seconds off her personal best for the 100 Backstroke.
“I have been in competitive swimming for eight years, and I am so glad that East Chambers has a swim team so I can do what I love for my school,” Coffey said. “I’ve had an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish.”
The swim team will travel to Nederland for another practice meet on Tuesday, Dec 2.
