The swim team competed in the District Swim Meet on Friday, Jan 16 at Galena Park ISD Natatorium where they advanced to Regionals.
In the boys 50 Freestyle, junior Chip Franklin placed 1st and senior Reid Todd placed 2nd. Todd also placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke. Sophomore Drew Frederick placed 1st in the 100 Butterfly while junior Chip Franklin placed 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke. Seniors Hayden LeVeck placed 1st in the 200 and 100 Freestyle races and Koby Jones placed 2nd in the 100 Freestyle.
The boys Medley Relay team won 1st place with Todd, Franklin, Frederick, and Jones. Their 200 Freestyle Relay team won 1st place with Todd, Frederick, Jones, and LeVeck. Their 400 Freestyle Relay team won 1st place with LeVeck, Frederick, Jones, and Franklin.
In the girls 100 Butterfly, freshman Kalyssa Fontenot placed 1st and sophomore Jayla Coffey placed 2nd. Fontenot also placed 1st in the girls 200 Freestyle. Coffey also placed 2nd in the 100 Butterfly.
“Our swimmers competed hard and represented EC with pride. Despite training just two hours a week this time of year, these athletes continue to shine, thanks in part to their hard work in other sports,” sponsor Leslie Todd said. “So proud of this team.”
In the Final Team Results, the boys won 2nd overall and the girls won 3rd overall. In addition, Franklin was named ‘Boy Athlete of the Meet’.
“I am very blessed to receive this award,” Franklin said, “I can’t wait for many new opportunities with my teammates yet to come.”
The swim team will travel to Lamar High School in Houston on Friday, Jan 31 to compete in the Regional Swim Meet.
