National Technical Honor Society members volunteered at the Toys for Tots warehouse through the U.S. Marine Corps in Texas City on Wednesday, Dec. 17 under the direction of sponsor Jessica Otte. Students filtered through local donations, labeling toys for the organization, to distribute to families.
“I’m so proud of how hard these kids worked organizing and loading up the toys all day,” Otte said. “We were invited to return next year too.”
Volunteer leader Rochelle Miller and Sergeant Jordan, out of Galveston, organized the event and surprised the students with Raising Cane’s for lunch.
“I really appreciated how kind the sergeant was to all of us by paying for our lunch after we helped out. The reason we were able to be so efficient and organize everything for the workers is because of all of our amazing members,” NTHS President Dakota Matthews said. “I’m happy that NTHS was able to assist in making an impact on others’ lives. As president, I am looking forward to bringing the society together through serving the community. Being able to lead is such an honor and I am so grateful to have this opportunity.”
NTHS members will head to Crystal Beach, after spring break, for a beach clean-up day with the “Keep Bolivar Beautiful” organization.
